Urgent cholera medication delivery in Yemen

Islamic Relief has delivered 19 tonnes of medical aid to Yemen, a country that is facing the worst cholera outbreak in modern history. The cargo plane arrived at Sana’a International airport before the closure of all air, land and sea access that is preventing life-saving aid from reaching millions at risk of disease and famine.

Yemen is experiencing the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, with a cholera epidemic that has seen more than 900,000 suspected cases and over 2,000 deaths. Seventeen million people – 60 per cent of the population – are food insecure, with seven million at risk of famine.

The humanitarian community, including Islamic Relief, has signed a statement calling for the immediate opening of all air and seaports to ensure food, fuel and medicines can enter the country.

Islamic Relief has been working in Yemen since 1998 and has stepped up its activity over the last three years due to the severity of the humanitarian crisis. We are currently working in 18 of the country’s 22 governorates in the country, providing food, water, shelter and medical aid.

Islamic Relief is continuing to support hospitals and medical clinics around the country as they are overwhelmed with the large number of patients in need of urgent medical care.

Please continue to support our Yemen emergency appeal.
